Linda Green Bowen

Personal.  A native of Los Angeles CA, Linda graduated from North Hollywood High School and Valley College prior to attending San Jose State.  She married Gordon Bowen in 1970 and the couple make their home in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  Linda is the mother of two adult daughters: Jennifer and LK, both of whom graduated from the Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia.  The family stays close despite living at great distances from one another.

• LK has lived in the Los Angeles area since moving there from Providence, Rhode Island where she was awarded an M.A.T. degree at Brown University in May 2004.  An accomplished runner (e.g., Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, D.C., October 2002, 4 hours 18 minutes), she also enjoys hiking, travel, history, diverse cultures, and many other interests.  Since 2004, she has been a high school history/social studies teacher in Southern California.  In 2006, she married Rob, an M.D., and the couple live in the Inland Empire, where in Sept. 2008 she gave birth to their son, Noah, who is Linda's third grandchild.

• Jennifer is an attorney in the Kansas City, MO area.  She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in May 2002, where she was Executive Editor of the Virginia Law Review.  Jennifer's husband, Jeff, is a history teacher.  The couple moved to Kansas in Spring 2005, after residing in Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, 2002-05.  Jennifer has been a member of the California Bar since 2002, and became a member of the Missouri Bar in 2005, and the Kansas Bar in 2006.   Jennifer and Jeff are the parents of the older two of Linda's grandchildren: grandson Benjamin, who was born during summer 2003, ... Ben is a big, happy, blonde haired boy, and Linda and Gordon love spending time with Ben and his sister:...  Maggie, who entered this world in December 2006, and who loves playing with her brother and her grandparents.

Professional.  Linda is a Special Education teacher in rural Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  After finishing her B.A. at the New College of San Jose State (1971) and completing a fifth year California Teaching Certificate (1972) with a specialty in individualization of instruction, she has held a range of professional teaching positions.  In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Linda taught English as a Second Language to refugees and immigrants for the Columbia MO public schools, for that city's adult education services, and for the language labs of the University of Missouri.  In the 1980s, Linda attended Lynchburg (VA) College, and was awarded an M.A. degree as a Reading Education specialist; she also is a certified teacher of students with learning disabilities.  For nearly 25 years, she has taught learning disabled students in rural VA.  Her recent assignments have focused on adapting many academic subjects for high school learning disabled students, including algebra, geometry, and history.

Interests.  Since the experience at Monte Capanno, Linda has enjoyed much travel, fitness activities, yoga, and numerous forms of artistic expression including throwing pottery, spinning and weaving, and in recent years she has focused on oil painting.  Her favorite subjects are landscapes and still life.  She enjoys frequent visits to Kansas City to see Jennifer, Jeff, and Ben and Maggie; to the Los Angeles area, where Linda's mother Esther, Linda's brother Martin, and LK live; and to Orange County, California to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Randy, their daughter Liz, and Liz's daughter Allyson. Other favorite spots include the Central Coast of California (where Gordon's mother, Eilleen Bowen, resides), the Bay Area of California (where Gordon's brother, Tom, lives, as do many of her friends from San Jose and Monte Capanno), Washington D.C., and Virginia Beach, VA.  Linda loves to hear from friends and can be reached at: lindabowen2@yahoo.com
